Generosity as Worship
At Burnaby Chinese Evangelical Free Church, we believe that giving is an act of worship and a joyful response to God's grace. The Bible teaches us that everything we have belongs to God, and we are stewards of His blessings.
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." — 2 Corinthians 9:7
Biblical Foundations
Scripture provides clear guidance on the principles of giving:
- Tithe: The Old Testament establishes the tithe — giving the first ten percent of our income — as a baseline of faithful stewardship (Malachi 3:10). While the New Testament emphasizes grace-based giving, the tithe remains a meaningful starting point for many believers.
- Generous and Sacrificial: Beyond the tithe, God calls us to generous, sacrificial giving that reflects the depth of His love for us (2 Corinthians 8:1-5).
- Cheerful and Willing: God does not desire gifts given out of obligation or guilt. He delights in cheerful, willing hearts (2 Corinthians 9:7).
- Faithful and Regular: Consistent giving reflects our ongoing trust in God's provision and our commitment to the church's mission (1 Corinthians 16:2).
Why We Give
Our giving supports the work God is doing through BCEFC:
- Proclaiming the Gospel in Burnaby and beyond
- Discipling believers to grow in faith and maturity
- Supporting missionaries and mission partners worldwide
- Caring for those in need within our church and community
- Maintaining a welcoming space for worship and fellowship
We give not out of duty, but out of gratitude — because God first gave to us (John 3:16).
